Wildlife

We are all guests in nature, it has its own residence. Refreshingly, Jiwa is a wild and untamed place. Knowing this is part of the charm and challenge, something key when traveling in the wider more remote parts of this beautiful island. Nature lovers, animal enthusiasts, and bird watchers welcome!

The lodge was designed to exist in harmony with its natural surroundings, to pay them homage, and to preserve a healthy and clean habitat for local wildlife. Our "do no harm" philosophy provides a safe space for all of Bali's creatures and we invite you to share in that commitment during your stay. While here, you are likely to encounter many of the area's birds, reptiles, insects, and mammals. On these pages you will find just a sample of what awaits you here in Mt. Batukaru's lush forests. We are constantly documenting wildlife sightings around the lodge and will update these pages as we confirm new species.  We've included animals that exist in the area, but have not necessarily been spotted at the lodge. As animal lovers, t's just nice to know what's around.

Please note that it is not uncommon for your bungalow to be visited by some of these beautiful species. Geckos, butterflies, and other forest creatures make their home here and may come to say hello during your stay. Know that they are not "pests," nor are they indicative of a lack of proper cleaning. We do not use chemical repellants, kill traps, or poisons of any kind. Most of our local fauna is harmless and we are always here to help should anything become a problem. While we do have a nearby monkey forest filled with the beautiful long-tailed macaques, we do not have monkeys around the lodge.

*If you catch a great photo of an animal while you're here, we'd be happy to post it to our site with our

gratitude and, of course, a really nice photo credit.

Big thanks to the incredible teams at iNaturalist and baliwildlife to whom we are grateful for their support
