The Balinese long-tailed macaque, one of Pupuan's local treasures.

Monkey Forest

While rich in biodiversity, Bali is not home to a large number of mammals. One of it's most famous is the long-tailed macaque. Long believed to be the sacred protectors of the island's forest temples, these beautiful animals inhabit many of the mountain's forests and can easily be admired as they play, forage, and raise their young. The Mekori temple is only a 15 minute ride from our lodge and is a great place to take in the majesty of our monkeys. Just up the road from Mekori is the famous, Warung Dedy Entil. Known for it's delicious version of the local dish "entil," which is made with a rich broth, chicken, veggies, and steamed rice cakes wrapped in entil leaves. For those who like a little kick, Dedy's sambal is as delicious as it is fiery...give it a try.
