The Lodge

Property
Jiwa is a boutique eco-lodge in the small farming village of Karya Sari, Tabanan, on the slopes of Mt. Batukaru. It was created as a place where people and nature can thrive together. Spread across a hectare of lush food forest, it spans two properties connected by a small farming road. Our six bungalows were designed in a modern organic style, featuring natural finishings with a touch of luxury. Each offers privacy and quiet immersion in the surrounding forest with views across lush valleys, clean flowing rivers, or terraced rice fields. Designed for simplicity and comfort, the bungalows provide a gentle balance of rustic charm and natural beauty.

Amenities
We designed the lodge with several extras for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. The shared spaces at Jiwa are shaped for rest and renewal. The natural pool, wood-burning sauna, and massage bale invite deep relaxation, and our yoga and retreat platform opens into the canopy, perfect for movement, meditation, or stillness. In our open-air dining room, we serve wholesome meals inspired by local flavors and a few of our hometown favorites. Each meal is made to nourish both body and spirit. Jiwa Eco Escape is more than just a place to stay—it’s a chance to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and pass the time in the majesty of nature.

Surroundings
Our property boasts a variety of flora and fauna. As you stroll through forest paths, you will notice mangosteen, durian, coconut, papaya, banana, and host of other ripening fruit. Local trees, plants, and flowers are home to stunning butterflies, kingfishers, dragonflies, geckos, frogs, and a bounty of other species of birds, reptiles, and insects. A highlight of this area for bird-watchers is the white-crowned forktail, locally known as the "sing-sing," which can be seen daily down by the river.
We are all guests in nature; it has its own residence. Refreshingly, Jiwa is a wild and untamed place. Our "do no harm" philosophy provides a safe space for all of Bali's creatures. We invite you to share in that commitment during your stay. Knowing this is part of the charm and challenge, a key when traveling in the wider more remote parts of this beautiful island.

Eco Initiatives
At Jiwa, we are dedicated to sustainable practices wherever possible. Buildings have been built using bamboo, farm-grown timber, and other natural/local materials, blending into the landscape with minimal impact. The lodge runs entirely without chemicals—using plant-based cleaning and laundry supplies, natural soaps for the bathroom and shower, and waste-water gardens to filter and reuse all black and grey water. The lodge hosts an all-natural, living pool with a live, wetland area. The glass in our windows has been bird-proofed, keeping the forest’s wildlife safe as it flows around us. This first-of-it's-kind approach eliminates deadly bird-strike throughout the property. Finally, our solar paneled storage room allows us to reduce electricity consumption and keeps the lights on in severe weather conditions.

* Please note there are stairs and hills throughout the property. Some bungalows are a 2-minute walk to and from the main facilities. A basic level of physical fitness is encouraged.
